MARLEY and GRAY are found sitting at a familiar lunch table just outside the school, the view of the school at their backs, this time there are no other students but themselves. GRAY sits on the bench while MARLEY sits on the table top, a text book open in her lap; she appears to be working on schoolwork.
MARLEY: (Absently) So where is Maynard, anyway? I didn't see him in homeroom this morning.
GRAY: (Uneasily) I'm not so sure, myself. I was supposed to meet him this morning but I ended up walking here by myself.
MARLEY: Weird, Maynard said he intended to walk you to and from school as long as your Mother wanted him to. It's unlike him to
GRAY is found sitting on the bottom steps of a lonely, run-down two-story house. Surrounding the house behind her with the broken shutters and the empty, wide porch is tall, uncut grass that it turning tan, indicating the coming of summer. MAYNARD enters SR and takes a seat, GRAY remains un-reacting.
MAYNARD: I think we'll both be late for school if we don't start walking.
GRAY: I don't think I'll go to school; I don't feel well.
MAYNARD: You don't look physically ill, but you do seem like something's troubling you. How did it go with your Mother last night when I left?
GRAY: It went awful. Everything you and Remington said was true, and
There is a gray curved bench where GRAY sits in front of a wooded area, shrubs and various flowers surround the bench and there is a faint sound of running water, a small fish pond in front of her where her eyes are fixed. There is a white picket fence extending from SR to center stage behind the bench. MOTHER enters.
MOTHER: (She pats GRAY on the shoulder) Supper's almost ready.
GRAY: I'll be inside in a bit. (Beat) Are you still mad at me for coming home by myself?
MOTHER: (She kisses her cheek) I can't stay mad at you. But what did the two of you fight about that made you so angry that you couldn't walk together?
GRAY: It was just stup
There is a table with chairs where GRAY, MAYNARD, and MARLEY sit, eating. The lunch table appears to be outside the school with the side of the red brick building partly in view as well as the green courtyard covered in flowers. Around the table there are various other students chatting.
MARLEY: (While chewing) It's been such a long time to see the two of you together, I'm feeling nostalgic, just like the good days! I wonder why it's taken so long to finally come together again.
MAYNARD: I've been pretty busy, I guess.
GRAY: My Mother insisted Maynard walk me to school today.
MAYNARD: (To GRAY, smiling) I was glad I could, when your Mothe
The lights focus on CS, where a tall, lean young male stands, pacing, troubled. He appears to be standing in a forest behind a line of shrubbery, with various trees scattered around, and a narrow dirt path just before the shrubs he stood behind. Finally, he stops pacing.
REMINGTON: (Contemplating, to himself) I come to this blasted forest so often that I've begun to loose hope. I see that young girl come by every week day, but I don't have the will to stop her. I have to tell her the truth of what she is, but I don't want her to fear me. What am I to do?
REMINGTON turns and notices GRAY entering SR and CS. She's a young, meek girl. Riding h
I'm currently finished with "The Good of Bad Men" and I need to get around to finally posting the entire play.
But now that I'm done with it (phew!) I'm working on another one. I'm unsure if I should take my new idea and run with it, as much as I really want to.
It has a lot of religious themes, and that can be a little controversial. Perhaps just a warning on each section then? Who knows!
I'm unable to get a new camera for now, but at least it's warmer and I can finally go outside again! Hah.
I'm almost finished with my playwright, and I'm thinking of posting it when I'm finished. :meow:
I was a little under the weather today. I catch chills so easily :p
I upset because it's too cold to go outside and take any photos. :ohnoes: But I'll manage something!
